MEGA PUNTER is back with largest tennis bet ever!

Wednesday, June 1st, 2011

A William Hill client based in London has staked what is believed to be the largest ever bet placed on an individual tennis match - gambling £120,000 on Novak Djokovic to beat Roger Federer on Friday in the semi final of the French Open tournament.

Six figure bets on tennis are so rare as to be almost an endangered species, and in thirty-plus years in the business I cannot recall having seen, or even heard of ,a tennis bet of this size‘ said Hill’s spokesman Graham Sharpe.

The bet is the 27th in a world-record beating run of consecutive winning bets gambled by the man, believed to be in his thirties, who appeared in a William Hill betting shop in central London at the end of March to place the first of his wagers - an £8400 double on tennis stars Kim Clijsters and Djokovic both to win matches - which they duly did.

Since then his stakes have gradually increased as he has boosted his profit to a current £161,000, staking along the way an incredible £1.75million.

He has mainly concentrated generally on tennis and in particular on Djokovic - who he has now backed in 11 of his bets, although he has also gambled on Cage Fighting, Boxing - and Curling!

We can think of no other punter to compare him to - he told staff when he placed his first bet that he hoped to win enough to buy himself a house - well, he can already afford a small place out in the sticks, but a mansion in Mayfair may take a few more winning bets! He is effectively betting the house every time he bets‘ added spokesman Sharpe.

‘The crucial question now is - when will he decide he has won enough and walk away with his house-sized profits?’
