You bet Murray will be playing second fiddle next year

Tuesday, September 13th, 2011

Following the last Grand Slam of the year, all eyes turn to next year and William Hill are betting on how many Slams Andy Murray will win. The bad news for British tennis fans is that he is odds-on, at 2/5, to end the 2012 season with none of the four major trophies. He is 6/4 to get one and 14/1 to get two. Novak Djokovic has been a revelation this year and he is 20/1 to go one better than he did this year and win all four Grand Slams. Rafa is 6/5 to win one Grand Slam and 15/8 to win two, while Roger Federer’s dominance looks all but over with Hills offering 4/9 that he wins no Slams next season.

The signs are not looking good for Andy Murray with Rafa and Djokovic showing no signs of slowing down and it looks as though their dominance over the next few years could keep him well and truly in the shade,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly.

Hills are also betting on which Grand Slam will be the one in which Murray goes furthest and make the US, Australian and Wimbledon the joint 2/1 favourites with the French Open offered at 5/1.

Which Slam will Andy Murray go furthest in in 2012: 2/1 Australian Open; 2/1 Wimbledon; 2/1 US Open; 5/1 French Open (dead heat rules apply)

Andy Murray 2012 Major wins: 2/5 none; 6/4 one; 14/1 two; 80/1 three; 200/1 four

Novak Djokovic 2012 Major wins: 11/4 none; 11/8 one; 7/4 two; 6/1 three; 20/1 four

Roger Federer 2012 Major wins: 4/9 none; 11/8 one; 14/1 two; 80/1 three; 200/1 four

Rafa Nadal 2012 Major wins: 5/2 none; 6/5 one; 15/8 two; 8/1 three; 33/1 four
