Murray odds-on never to win a Major

Tuesday, January 31st, 2012

Andy Murray is 4/6 with William Hill to announce his retirement never having won a singles Major - but 11/10 finally to break his duck before he quits.

‘If Andy can shake off the psychological blow of coming so near yet so far, he doesn’t have much ground to make up on the tp three - and he may well have started favourite against Nadal had he got through’ said Hill’s spokesman Graham Sharpe.

Novak Djokovic is the 4/6 favourite to win the Australian Open with William Hill, after his five set epic against Andy Murray.

Rafael Nadal is 6/5 to win the tournament.

The most likely outcome is a 3-0 victory for Djokovic, offered at 7/2, while a 3-1 victory is 14/5 and 3-2 is 9/2.

Hills offer 5/2 that the match goes to five sets.

Murray stutters as Djokovic does the business

Tuesday, January 17th, 2012

Andy Murray did not have the best of starts to the Australian Open, dropping his first set.

Fortunately his second round opponent looks an easy proposition and he is 1/50 to progress to the third round, but 4/1 to advance having dropped a single set.

Of the big four Djokovic had the best start and he has been trimmed to Evens from 11/10 to defend his title, with Roger Federer second favourite at 4/1

Murray was a little disappointing but he is often a slow starter and punters who have backed him should not be too worried yet,” said Hill’s spokesman Rupert Adams

Is Lendl perfect coach for nearly man Murray?

Sunday, January 15th, 2012

Andy Murray has teamed up with Ivan Lendl ahead of the Australian Open and Hills offer 9/2 that his Grand Slam career mirrors that of his coach - in losing his first four Grand Slam finals before winning one.

Murray has lost three finals and it would be easy for him to get down about that, but his coach is in the perfect position to tell him to keep his chin up,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly.

Murray is the 5/1 third favourite to win the tournament behind Novak Djokovic 11/10 and Roger Federer at 7/2.

Rafael Nadal rounds off the top four at 11/2 and Hills think that there is such a big gap between these four players and the rest of the field that they are offering 11/4 that it is those four that contest the quarter finals.

Petra Kvitova leads the betting for the Women’s draw at 5/2 with Serena Williams 3/1 and Kim Clijsters and Victoria Azarenka at 6/1.

Andy Murray Stage of Elimination: 9/1 Round 1; 10/1 Round 2; 10/1 Round 3; 5/1 Round 4; 5/1 Quarter Final; 6/4 Semi Final; 11/2 runner up; 5/1 winner

2012 will it be mighty Murray or more Grand Slam misery?

Wednesday, January 4th, 2012

Andy Murray dropped a set in his first match of 2012 and William Hill are 2/5 that he fails to win a Grand Slam in 2012.

If Murray is to break his Grand Slam duck, his relationship with new coach Ivan Lendel will need to thrive but Hills are 6/4 they split before the end of 2012.

“On his day Andy Murray can beat all comers but the first Grand Slam has proved elusive and the odds suggest another blank year,” said Hill’s spokesman Rupert Adams.

You bet Murray looking up for end of season!

Tuesday, November 8th, 2011

Andy Murray has proclaimed his desire to end the season on a high and having won every match he has played since the US Open Semi Final, he is targeting a rise to number two in the world by the end of 2011. William Hill offer 16/1 that he manages to do so.

Murray is in blistering form at the moment and appears confident that he can continue his late season flourish,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly. “His rising to second in the world by the end of the year would, however, depend on Nadal having a shocker in London.”

You bet Murray will be playing second fiddle next year

Tuesday, September 13th, 2011

Following the last Grand Slam of the year, all eyes turn to next year and William Hill are betting on how many Slams Andy Murray will win. The bad news for British tennis fans is that he is odds-on, at 2/5, to end the 2012 season with none of the four major trophies. He is 6/4 to get one and 14/1 to get two. Novak Djokovic has been a revelation this year and he is 20/1 to go one better than he did this year and win all four Grand Slams. Rafa is 6/5 to win one Grand Slam and 15/8 to win two, while Roger Federer’s dominance looks all but over with Hills offering 4/9 that he wins no Slams next season.

The signs are not looking good for Andy Murray with Rafa and Djokovic showing no signs of slowing down and it looks as though their dominance over the next few years could keep him well and truly in the shade,” said Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly.

Hills are also betting on which Grand Slam will be the one in which Murray goes furthest and make the US, Australian and Wimbledon the joint 2/1 favourites with the French Open offered at 5/1.

Which Slam will Andy Murray go furthest in in 2012: 2/1 Australian Open; 2/1 Wimbledon; 2/1 US Open; 5/1 French Open (dead heat rules apply)
