The final Grand Slam of the season takes place in the opulent surroundings of Flushing Meadows where the world’s finest players will by vying to be crowned US Open champion.

Defending champion Kim Clijsters has pulled out due to injury, so Serena Williams could be in line to win her fourth US Open title.

Serena has made four final appearances in New York losing only once, but young Czech upstart Petra Kvitova is searching for her second Grand Slam win. While Sharapova is never one to be discounted.
