Will Djokovic rescue bookies from Nadal victory?

Monday, January 30th, 2012

Novak Djokovic is the 4/6 favourite to win the Australian Open with William Hill, after his five set epic against Andy Murray. Rafael Nadal is 6/5 to win the tournament.

The most likely outcome is a 3-0 victory for Djokovic, offered at 7/2, while a 3-1 victory is 14/5 and 3-2 is 9/2. Hills offer 5/2 that the match goes to five sets.

We went 8/1 pre-tournament for a Nadal victory and as a result we are big Djokovic supporters in the final. The five set match against Murray will have taken it out of him and hopefully he can win it in straight sets,” said Hill’s spokesman Rupert Adams.

Andy Murray is 4/6 with William Hill to announce his retirement never having won a singles Major - but 11/10 finally to break his duck before he quits.

Djokovic is now 14/1 to complete the Grand Slam this year, with Nadal 25/1.

Andy Murray is now 2/9 to fail to win a Grand Slam this year, 11/4 to win one, 33/1 to win two and 125/1 to win three.

Number of sets in match: 11/8 three sets; 11/8 four sets; 5/2 five sets

Murray stutters as Djokovic does the business

Tuesday, January 17th, 2012

Andy Murray did not have the best of starts to the Australian Open, dropping his first set.

Fortunately his second round opponent looks an easy proposition and he is 1/50 to progress to the third round, but 4/1 to advance having dropped a single set.

Of the big four Djokovic had the best start and he has been trimmed to Evens from 11/10 to defend his title, with Roger Federer second favourite at 4/1

Murray was a little disappointing but he is often a slow starter and punters who have backed him should not be too worried yet,” said Hill’s spokesman Rupert Adams

Mystery punter stakes £100k on Nadal and Djokovic

Monday, May 30th, 2011

THE WILLIAM HILL betting shop customer who is £160,000 up after backing 25 consecutive winners is going for a 26th by staking his biggest wager yet of £117,857 on both Rafa Nadal and Novak Djokovic winning their next matches in the French Open.

Nadal is red hot 1/100 favourite to win his game, while Djokovic is 1/33.

If both win he will add an additional £4714 to his current winning balance of £160,000.

This is fast becoming the mystery man’s trademark bet - he has now included Djokovic in ten of his bets - they are both of terrific winning runs - but one defeat would bring both of them crashing back to earth with a huge bump- although even losing this bet would leave him over £40,000 in front‘ said Hill’s spokesman Graham Sharpe.

The customer, who is using a Central London branch of William Hill to place his bets is in his 30s and has told staff he hopes to win enough to buy himself a new house.

He has so far gambled a total of almost £1.75m during his record breaking spree, which has already set a new world record for consecutive winning bets.

Punter wins £1000 after placing £100,000 on Djokovic victory!

Tuesday, May 24th, 2011

A William Hill punter from South Kensington won £1000 earlier today after placing a monster £100,000 on Djokovic to win his first round match at the French Open.

The punter, who is believed to have started his winning run with a £6,000 on Djokovic almost two months ago, also staked £96,000 on Nathan Cleverly to win his fight at odds of 1/16 and duly collected £6000.

As far as we can tell, the mystery punter tends to back both Nadal & Djokovic at big odds-on prices in the early rounds of the big tournaments. Outside of tennis he seems to have some boxing knowledge having backed both Cleverly and a cage fighter earlier this year. It is a risky strategy but one that has paid off so far!” said Hill’s spokesman Rupert Adams.
