Bookies hoping for another Murray close call in Australia

Monday, January 17th, 2011

2010 saw record Australian Open betting turnover as Andy Murray surged to the final of the tournament and bookies William Hill will be hoping a similar run will spark betting interest this year.

“Andy losing in the final was the best result we could have possibly hoped for and we are keeping our fingers crossed for the same outcome this year,” said Hills spokesman Joe Crilly. Hills are offering 6/1 that Andy loses in the final of this year’s Australian Open.

Murray is currently the 6/1 third favourite behind the 7/4 joint favourites of Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. Hills are offering 7/4 that Andy wins one or more Grand Slams this year and 4/9 that he fails once more.
